Thank you for your interest in the safe, quality firearm training offered by Safe Carry Firearm Academy! We currently offer NRA Basic Pistol Classes and Kansas Concealed Carry classes. For other classes we don’t currently offer, we’d encourage you to reach out to another reputable firearm instructor in the area. We’d recommend checking out Integrity Elite Firearms in Lawrence which hosts classes by Agile Training & Consulting, Red Brick Road Training, and Lakeside Security Training, among others. Alternatively, we would recommend using the resources available through the Kansas Firearm Training Center to find a class. Or you can search the NRA training website for other NRA-certified firearm instructors nearby.


NRA Basic Pistol – $100

In this class, you will learn:

  • Essential firearm safety rules and how to apply them
  • The differences between revolvers and semiautomatic handguns
  • Different brands and models of handguns and which one is best for you
  • Ammunition basics and which ones you should use for specific purposes
  • The fundamentals of pistol shooting
  • Different shooting positions
  • The most common shooting errors and how to correct them
  • Proper firearm cleaning, maintenance, and storage
  • How to maintain your skills

Upon successful passage of the written test and shooting qualification at the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion.


Kansas Concealed Carry – $100

In this class, we will cover Kansas laws concerning firearms, concealed carry, self-defense, home defense, and more.

We will discuss levels of situational awareness and a healthy defensive mindset, along with the basics of firearm use including sight picture, trigger and breath control, defensive shooting stances, addressing firearm malfunctions, and firearm cleaning and storage.

This class primarily focuses on the legal aspects of firearm ownership and carry. If you are unfamiliar with the basics of pistol shooting, we would strongly encourage you to take our NRA Basic Pistol course first.Upon successful completion of this class, the shooting qualification, and a written test you will receive a certificate you can submit to the Kansas Attorney General through your local Sheriff’s Office along with your concealed carry permit application.


About Moriah:

Moriah Day is a husband, father, and longtime Second Amendment advocate with a background in communications and political strategy. 

Moriah was a member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas State Rifle Association (the state affiliate of the National Rifle Association) for several years. He now serves as the Executive Director of the organization. He also serves as Chairman of the KSRA Political Action Committee. 

Growing up in rural southeast Kansas, Moriah has shot since he was first able to safely hold and operate a BB gun. He first started taking formal firearm classes in his teens and has continued his training over the years by taking classes in Basic Pistol, Advanced Pistol, Concealed Carry, and Church Security, to name a few. He is certified by the NRA to teach Basic Pistol and certified by the State of Kansas to teach the Kansas Concealed Carry class. 

Safe firearm ownership and use has been a passion as long as Moriah can remember, and his goal is to instill that passion in as many others as possible.
